loyalists
The loyalists lived in tents during their first winter. Most loyalist arrived with the little money and few supplies. More than 3000 loyalist that came to Nova Scotia were black. Approximintly 1196 black loyalists left Canada for Sierra Leone. There were many religions such as, Presbyterian, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Mennonlite and Quacker.

Did you know the Acadians came from France? They were the first European settlers in North America to have their own name and identity! More than ten thousand Acadians were forced away. A few years later the Acadians made their way back to the Atlantic region. The Acadians chose a date, August 15, which became National Acadian day!
